Mia Favretto
Mia Favretto comes to the Junior Hawks program after coaching at NAHA for the past 3 seasons. As Assistant Director and Head U16 Coach at NAHA, Mia led the Winter Hawks to a winning record each season while also capturing a JWHL League Championship and Challenge Cup Championship. Mia helped lead day-to-day operations at the academy with practice and game preparation, team and individual film, player development and advising, recruiting, teaching and student life coordination.
Prior to NAHA, Mia served as Head Varsity Girls Hockey Coach and Director of Middle School Athletics at Portledge School on Long Island, NY. While coaching at Portledge, Favretto helped lead the Panthers to their first Conference title in over a decade. She led all efforts in continuing to build the program including recruiting, implementing strength & conditioning programs, video analysis, and enhancing the overall student-athlete experience. During her time at Portledge, Favretto also served as a Physical Education and Health Teacher and advisor.
Favretto earned her Master’s of Arts in Education as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Castleton University in Castleton, Vermont. She assisted in all aspects of the hockey program including recruiting, video, practice and game preparation, social media, fundraising, and travel coordination. During her second season with the Spartans, Favretto helped lead the team to the NEHC quarterfinals while also recruiting the conference’s Rookie of The Year in 2018.
Favretto completed her collegiate hockey career as a two time National Champion for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. While at Plattsburgh, Favretto earned her Bachelors of Science in Childhood Education and served as a team captain for the team’s back-to-back National Titles in 2014 & 2015. Favretto played defense for the Cardinals, and was selected for the ECAC West All-Conference Team in 2015. She was also a four year member of the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and Commissioner’s List, and was recognized as the Vision Award Recipient for Student Excellence in 2014 & 2015.
Favretto continued her playing career after Plattsburgh overseas in Kapfenberg, Austria playing professionally for the Neuberg Highlanders in the European Women’s Hockey League (EWHL) during the 2015-2016 season. She was the team’s leading scorer for the Highlanders.
A native of Oakville, Ontario, Favretto played minor hockey for the Oakville Hornets in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL)
